Marco Chavez was 10 when he fell in love with hospitality. Growing up on a farm in Arizona, Chavez vacationed with his family in San Diego every summer to escape the desert heat. And so it was that he was smitten by the concierge’s infectious energy and the flourish of international languages being spoken. Studying abroad for college and soul-searching in Nottingham, England, Chavez realized his true calling was hospitality. He began in nightclubs and lounges before landing his first hotel job in 2011 as a concierge at Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale, a resort designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, fueling his interest in design and architecture.
Chavez joined Kimpton in 2012 at The Kimpton Palomar Phoenix, where he went from Front Office Supervisor to Assistant Front Office Manager to Assistant Director of Housekeeping in three years. In 2015, Director of Rooms at Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City. Working on the pre-opening team of The Kimpton Journeyman Hotel in Milwaukee in 2016, he was able to develop the Kimpton wellness pillar into popular programs that appealed to guests and made a splash in the media, among them meditation events and a running club that takes guests through the Historic Third Ward. Making a move to Chicago in 2018, Chavez brings his PR-savvy creativity, leadership skills to The Kimpton Gray Hotel. Driven by that sense of joy and curiosity he felt as a young hotel guest, Chavez worked with his team to deliver excellence to every guest of the experience-driven hotel, which earned the #1 customer satisfaction ranking for the Kimpton brand in 2018. These milestones have led Chavez to the exciting opportunity as Pre-opening General Manager for the 248 room Kimpton Alton Hotel in iconic Fisherman’s Wharf. The Alton, drawing inspiration in design and concept from the rich culture that is SF, allows Chavez to utilize his marketing perspective and unique programing tactics to position The Alton as the lifestyle and luxury hotel in The Wharf. |
